The 5 Browns family piano quintet will perform a Hope College Great Performance Series concert Friday, Jan. 18, in the Jack H. Miller Center Concert Hall, 221 Columbia Ave., Holland, at 7:30 p.m.
The Browns — Ryan, Melody, Gregory, Deondra and Desirae — were simultaneously accepted to and attended New York’s Juilliard School.
They enjoyed their first critical attention in February 2002 when People magazine dubbed them the “Fab Five” at about the same time they were featured on Oprah and 60 Minutes. All three of their CDs that year each went to No.1 on Billboard Magazine’s Classical Album Chart.
They have been covered by various media outlets ranging from The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, and The Today Show to CNN, Fox and Friends, The New York Times, and Los Angeles Times.
“One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years,” said The New York Post. “When these kids do Rachmaninoff, they’ll make you forget about Marshall amps.
