Saugatuck will have something it hasn’t seen for a while Nov. 5: a contested city council election.
Six residents have filed for three expiring two-year terms: incumbent Christine Peterson , joined by challengers Stephen Boyd, Todd Hoskins, Holly Leo, Garnett Lewis and Gerald Stoppel. Incumbent William Hess filed but then withdrew his name. Jeff Spangler, who would have been another incumbent, resigned in July because he was moving from town. Former Mayor Catherine Simon, appointed to serve out the remainder of the term, will not be on the general election ballot.
Douglas voters will have fewer choices. While incumbents Greg Harvath, Kathy Mooradian and Cathy North filed late to be returned to their two-year seats but filed as write-ins.
