Saugatuck 1 Hackett 4
After losing both of its games at the Zeeland Invitational two days earlier, Saugatuck hoped to get back to its winning ways in its twinbill with Hackett Catholic Central on Monday, May 15.
The Irish had other ideas.
Hackett won the first game 11-1 in five innings before handing the Indians a 4-1 loss in the second game, which was stopped after four innings due to the weather.
“I think we need a shower to wash off this losing streak,” said Saugatuck coach David Gawlak, whose team fell to 17-10.
Saugatuck’s lone run in the opening game came in the first inning as Evan Czarnecki and Grayson Rotter singled, with Czarnecki later scoring on a Carsie Walker sacrifice fly.
In the second game, Walker singled twice and Declan Kelley drove in the Indians’ lone run with a single.

Carsie Walker, Grayson Rotter and Brad Dunn each had two hits as part of a nine-hit attack that saw Saugatuck outhit Comstock during the Indians’ second game at the Zeeland Invitational on Saturday, May 13.
That, however, wasn’t enough to prevent a loss as the Indians fell 8-4.
Saugatuck fell 14-6 to eventual champ Zeeland East in the opening game.
Keegan Seifert, Evan Czarnecki and Colten Schaefer each added one hit against Comstock. In the loss to Zeeland East, Czarnecki, Dunn, Walker, Peyton Scogin, Declan Kelley and Wyatt Larsen each singled.
