Free barbershop concert celebrates Veterans Day

All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 252 Hoffman St., Saugatuck, will celebrate Veterans Day hosting a free, public barbershop harmony concert Sunday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m.
The event will celebrate both the centennial of Armistice Day, which brought World War I to an end, the church’s 150th anniversary.
Members of Holland Windmill Chorus, the area’s chapter of the International Barbershop Harmony Society, will sing in both chorus configuration and several step-out quartets, presenting songs ranging across patriotic, gospel, light-hearted, and show tunes.
A free-will offering will be accepted, and a meet-the-chorus reception with light refreshments will follow.
“This day marks the end of four years of brutality and tremendous loss of life a century ago,” said church Rector Fr. G. Corwin Stoppel.
“Traditionally in Saugatuck there is a community memorial service at 11 a.m. — signifying the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the guns were silenced.
“This year, extending our observance, All Saints’ is honored to host the Windmill Chorus for a concert in the uniquely American barbershop style.
“We invite all to come and join us as we express our gratitude to our men and women who have served in the Armed Forces,” Stoppel said.
