DELTON—After beating Lawrence (25-15, 25-13) in the quarterfinals and Hopkins (25-23, 26-24) in the finals, the Saugatuck volleyball team found itself in the finals of the Delton Invitational against Parchment on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
The finals couldn’t have been much closer.
After splitting the first two games by identical 25-22 scores—Parchment taking the first and Saugatuck taking the second—the Indians suffered the 16-14 loss in the decisive third game to finish as runner-up.
Erin Stannis, Zoe Myers and Maddie Moore spearheaded a solid effort for Saugatuck.
Moore led with 38 kills and six blocks, while her eight aces were second to Myers’ nine. Myers led with 37 assists and was third with 27 kills, while Stannis was second in kills (34) and assists (27) to go with seven aces.
Kierstyn Stoin led the defensive effort with 21 digs, with Karrisa Moerler going for 16.
In pool play, the Indians split with Hopkins (19-21, 21-13) before beating Delton (21-18, 21-16) and Eau Claire (21-5, 21-19).
