‘New’ old stories shared

The Saugatuck-Douglas History Center will explore advances in family history research at its free monthly program Wednesday, April 10, in the Old School House, 130 Center St., Douglas, starting at 7 p.m.

All are welcome and audience participation is welcomed to enrich the discussion.

Longtime Center historian/archivist Jack Sheridan’ “Heroes and Rogues: The Rest of the Story” presentation will share what recent research has yielded about a cast of characters such as James Wheeler, Miller Robinson, Francis Stockbridge, George Arnold, May Francis Heath and James Sheridan, and how local history is connected to them.

Sheridan, creator of the “Trippin’ Thru Time” feature that appears on Page 5 in The Commercial Record each week, will join fellow SDHC volunteers Judith Thomas and Donna St. Andre diving into research methods and new discoveries.

Together, they will show how they used historical images and records from Center archives to confirm relationships and build family trees, seek insight into each person’s character, sketch their lives as children, adults and parents; and assess what impact they had on the community.
