5-16 Scouts Ihle Hebert-crSaugatuck area Boy Scout Troop 29 completed an Eagle Scout project led by Clay Ihle Saturday planting 500 trees on Mt. Baldhead.

Working with white and red oaks, walnuts, arborvitaes and poplars provided by Saugatuck Department of Public Works director Scott Hebert, 16 Scouts and six adult volunteers helped provide erosion control and reforest the dune hillside damaged by a 2011-12 herbicide spraying, which went awry and killed hardwoods there.

The troop, under Mike Tighe who in January became new Scoutmaster, has close to 20 members. Ihle will be the third to earn Eagle Scout honors in this last year.
