WATERVLIET—Make it six and counting for the Saugatuck track teams.
Both the girls’ and boys’ track teams won the divisional championship for the sixth straight season by taking top honors at the SAC Lakeshore Divisional Meet on Monday, May 13.
The boys finished with 180 points to top runner-up Coloma by 63 points. The girls were even more dominant, racking up 215 points to outdistance second-place Martin by 119 points.
The girls secured 13 event wins en route to the championship, including three relays. Those relays were the 4×100 team of Mia Reed, Catherine Pond, Bailey Winsemius and Abby Hartgerink (55.91); the 4×200 team of Pond, Khloe Pratt, Reed and Kierstyn Stoin (1:57.43); and the 4×800 team of Jillian Vera, Thea Johnson, Taylor Conner and Natalie Martinson (11:58.71).
Morgan Beckman was a double winner for the Indians, taking top honors in both the shot put (32-4.5) and the discus (102-9).
Other winners include Pratt in the 400 (1:07.09), Martinson in the 800 (2:42.09), Thea Johnson in the 1,600 (5:58.11), Conner in the 3,200 (13:23.82), Winsemius in the 100 hurdles (18.81), Stoin in the 300 hurdles (49.39), Pond in the pole vault (8-6) and Hartgerink in the long jump (14-9).
The Saugatuck boys, meanwhile, won eight events.
Freshman Benny Diaz highlighted the performance on the boys’ side, winning the 100 (11.75) and the long jump (18-8.5). He was also part of the winning 4×100 relay team that posted a time of 46.04 and also included Fischer Avery, Brad Dunn and Tom Beckman.
Adam Martinson (4:51.58 in the 1,600), Dunn (14.91 in the 110 hurdles), Connor Seifert (43.49 in the 300 hurdles), Chase Gould (10-9 in the pole vault) and Beckman (42-3 in the shot put) were the other winners.
